Maharashtra FDA Suspends Food Licence of Otters Club in Bandra

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licence of Otters Club in Bandra following the discovery of analogue paneer and multiple hygiene violations during a statewide enforcement drive.

FDA officials inspected the Otters Club premises in Bandra on August 17, 2026, and found a product labelled 'Regular Paneer' and classified as 'Proprietary Food', which was supplied by Punjab Sind Dairy. The FDA alleged that the product was analogue paneer, the manufacture, storage, and sale of which is prohibited across Maharashtra. Following the inspection, the establishment's FSSAI food licence was suspended on August 18.

During the inspection at the Bandra club, officials also documented dirty floors, broken tiles, partially blocked drains, and damaged refrigerator gaskets capable of causing temperature fluctuations. The club had failed to maintain required records for Total Polar Compounds in edible oil and was not adhering to the First-In-First-Out system for managing food stocks.

The action formed part of an enforcement drive conducted across Maharashtra between July 14, 2026, and August 17, 2026, which led to licence suspensions and legal proceedings against several food establishments.

In Khar West, the FDA suspended the registration certificate of Prince of Wales Restaurant after inspectors found inadequate temperature maintenance for hot and cold food, improper storage, peeling paint and plaster, inadequate waste disposal, and a lack of pest control and insect-proof netting.

The licence of Café Sifarish in Andheri East was also suspended after it failed to submit a compliance report following an earlier Improvement Notice. Deficiencies there included poor general cleanliness, inadequate storage facilities, and a lack of separate storage for chemicals and staff belongings.

In Vile Parle East, the FDA suspended the food licence of Raj Oil Trading after discovering rat gnaw marks on oil packets, foul odours, poor waste disposal, and improper segregation of food items from hazardous substances. In Dahisar, legal action was initiated against Daily Fresh Bakers & Cakes after inspectors found cakes allegedly being prepared on counter floors amid pest infestations and the use of expired food colours.

Outside Mumbai, the FDA suspended the licence of Hotel Chul Mutton in Lohegaon, Pune, over sanitary and hygiene violations, while enforcement action was also recorded against Shivam Traders in Nagpur.
