Maharashtra Promotes 82 Revenue Officials Including 57 Tehsildars

In Mumbai, the Maharashtra state government has granted ad hoc promotions to 82 revenue officials, elevating 57 Tehsildars to the post of Deputy Collector (Group-A) and 25 Naib Tehsildars to the rank of Tehsildar (Group-A).

The administrative decision was undertaken on the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and through the initiative of Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. The measure is aimed at strengthening and speeding up revenue administration across Maharashtra while directly addressing operational difficulties stemming from vacant posts.

Under the 2025-26 select list, 57 Tehsildars in the S-19 pay scale have been promoted to the Deputy Collector cadre, moving into the S-20 pay scale. In addition, 25 Naib Tehsildars have been advanced from the S-14 pay scale to the Tehsildar cadre in the S-19 pay scale under the supplementary select list.

Detailed postings for the newly promoted Deputy Collectors will not take effect immediately and are scheduled to be issued separately. These assignments will be allocated under the provisions of the Maharashtra Revenue Department Allocation Rules, 2021, following the completion of administrative work related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Separate deployment orders will also be issued for the postings of the promoted Tehsildars.

The promotions are subject to specific departmental conditions. The promotions granted to the Naib Tehsildars require final approval by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission. Furthermore, officials promoted to the Deputy Collector cadre will be required to serve for a minimum duration of three years within their assigned revenue division before they become eligible for any future promotions.
