Mayor Ritu Tawde Reprimands Youths at Worli Seafront Amid High Tide and Red Alert

On Saturday, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Tawde personally intervened at the Worli seafront in Mumbai to reprimand youths and urge families to immediately vacate the area due to dangerous high tide and heavy rainfall conditions. The Mayor's intervention occurred as Mumbai and several other districts in Maharashtra were placed under a Red Alert due to intense monsoon weather.

While inspecting the Worli locality, Mayor Tawde encountered several citizens, including families, who had gathered along the seafront to experience the monsoon. A video released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) captured the Mayor scolding a group of youths sitting near the edge of the water despite the rough sea and adverse weather.

In the video, Mayor Tawde is heard questioning the youths, asking why they were sitting there during a high tide amid such intense rainfall, and instructing them to clear the area immediately. She subsequently made a wider appeal to all citizens present at the seafront, urging them to leave due to the combination of heavy rain and rough seas.

The Mayor's direct action came after reports that numerous citizens were ignoring safety warnings issued by the BMC and the Mumbai Police. Both authorities have repeatedly advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel and stay completely away from seafronts during periods of heavy rainfall and high tide.

The heavy downpour has caused widespread disruption across Mumbai. Multiple rain-related incidents have been reported, with several parts of the city experiencing severe waterlogging and flooding, alongside incidents of tree falls in different areas. Authorities have reinforced their advisory for residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel during the active Red Alert.
