MSEDCL Executive Engineer Arrested in Bhandup for Alleged Rs 50,000 Bribe

MSEDCL Executive Engineer Arrested in Bhandup for Alleged Rs 50,000 Bribe

The Anti-Corruption Bureau Mumbai unit on Monday, November 2, 2026, arrested a 51-year-old Executive Engineer attached to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited at the MSEDCL Civil Division office in Bhandup, Mumbai, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe.

The arrested public servant has been identified as Devendra Gilurkar, 51, who serves as Executive Engineer (Civil) at the MSEDCL Civil Division in Bhandup. Gilurkar was apprehended after allegedly seeking kickbacks to clear outstanding government contractor payments.

According to the ACB, the enforcement action was initiated following a formal complaint filed by a 37-year-old government civil contractor. The complainant had pending bills amounting to approximately Rs 21 lakh for various government civil works that had been executed since June 2026.

To clear and sanction the outstanding dues, Gilurkar allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 1.80 lakh from the contractor. Reluctant to yield to the extortion demand, the contractor approached the ACB Mumbai office on October 26, 2026, and lodged a detailed written complaint against the official.

Following the complaint, the anti-graft agency initiated an official verification process. During the verification exercise conducted on October 30, 2026, the accused engineer confirmed his demand for the Rs 1.80 lakh bribe. Gilurkar instructed the complainant to remit the money in instalments and insisted on an initial payment of Rs 50,000 to process the pending billing files.

Acting on the verified details, an ACB team set a trap at the MSEDCL office in Bhandup on Monday. Gilurkar was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the first instalment of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.

Following the arrest, ACB officers conducted a personal search of the accused engineer and seized his mobile phone for further technical investigation. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been formally registered against Gilurkar, and further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
