One-Inch Ganesha Idol Inside Shivling Draws Devotees to Malad Pandal
A miniature one-inch Ganesha idol placed inside a Shivling at the Dhanjiwadi Cha Dhanraj pandal in Malad has caught widespread attention during Ganesh Chaturthi. While the city's Ganeshotsav celebrations are traditionally recognised for towering statues and grand decorations, this tiny representation has gone viral on social media and intrigued visiting devotees.
Described as Mumbai's smallest Ganesh idol, the figure measures exactly one inch in height, offering a stark contrast to the massive idols across the city. The layout of the pandal features a dual setup, where devotees first encounter a large, beautifully decorated Ganesh idol adorned with silver accessories before finding the miniature installation.
The real surprise sits directly beside the larger figure inside a Shivling. The Shivling contains a tiny opening, requiring visitors to peer closely through the hole to locate the miniature Bappa positioned within.
The one-inch idol depicts a distinctive representation that combines iconography associated with both Lord Ganesha and Lord Shiva. The tiny Ganesha is styled as Lord Shiva and is shown standing atop Nandi.
Organisers created a setting surrounding the idol to recreate the atmosphere of Kailash Parvat. A cotton-based decoration serves as the backdrop to represent the sky, completing the miniature sacred environment.
Because the figure is so small, visitors find it difficult to view clearly with the naked eye. Devotees at the pandal have been relying on the 3x digital zoom on their mobile phone cameras to catch a closer look and photograph the idol.
The pandal is located in the Dhanjiwadi area near Rani Sati Road and Kasam Baug. Commuters can reach the location by alighting at Malad Railway Station on the Western Line, taking the east-side exit, and travelling by auto-rickshaw or cab.
