Seven Dead in Kurla Landslide Following Heavy Rain in Chirag Nagar

Seven people, including two young children, died after a landslide struck Gaushiya Chawl in the Chirag Nagar area near Rathod Medical in Mumbai's Kurla during the early hours of Wednesday following heavy rainfall.

According to a senior official and information released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) PRO, the death toll from the collapse reached seven as rescue teams worked through the debris.

The victims have been identified as Aban Arif Shaikh, aged 2; Manat Arif Shaik, aged 4; Mohamad Samir Ansari, aged 14; Sahil Husen Abdul Kazi, aged 19; Marjina Arif Shaikh, aged 27; and Viket Ramesh Yadav, aged 27. An unidentified individual aged approximately 45 was also among the deceased.

Following the incident, Mumbai Mayor Ritu Twade announced financial compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased victims. The mayor also announced Rs 50,000 in assistance for each person who sustained injuries in the Kurla landslide.

Emergency response teams and police personnel were deployed to the site immediately after the incident to carry out search and rescue operations. Multiple civic and emergency agencies joined the effort at Gaushiya Chawl.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation stated that municipal officials, staff, and workers participated in the rescue operations alongside teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the Mumbai Police, and personnel operating the 108 ambulance service. Responders made ongoing efforts to locate and assist individuals trapped beneath the collapsed sheds and rubble.
