Sindhudurg Road Repairs Ordered on Priority Ahead of Ganeshotsav

Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane has directed authorities to complete the repair and strengthening of roads across Sindhudurg district on an urgent basis ahead of Ganeshotsav. Chairing a review meeting at Mantralaya in Mumbai, Rane stated that the district experiences a heavy influx of people traveling home for the festival, making safe and smooth road connectivity vital for both visitors and local residents.
The review meeting assessed the current condition of roads managed under the National Highways, the Public Works Department, and the Zilla Parishad. Ongoing maintenance operations, repair initiatives, and pothole-filling works across the district were examined in detail.
Rane instructed officials to conduct immediate inspections of all damaged stretches and undertake quality repairs and strengthening wherever needed. He stated that potholes must be filled without delay to facilitate seamless traffic flow, stressing that road works should not merely focus on filling potholes but also ensure durability and long-term quality. Regular monitoring and maintenance must continue throughout the festival period, as vehicular movement on major arterial routes is expected to rise substantially.
The condition of the Kankavli flyover was also taken up during the review. Potholes on the flyover have reportedly resulted in water accumulation at several locations. Rane instructed the concerned agencies to carry out immediate repairs on the structure to avert any potential accidents.
In addition to ongoing repairs, Rane ordered a comprehensive road safety audit across major routes in Sindhudurg to identify accident-prone locations. He directed officials to install necessary safety measures at identified spots without delay, including warning signs, directional signage, road safety equipment, and protective barriers.
Concerned departments were instructed to continuously monitor road conditions under their respective jurisdictions and take prompt corrective actions. The review meeting was attended by senior administrative officials, including Fisheries Commissioner Prerna Deshbhratar, Public Works Department National Highways Secretary Santosh Shelar, Sindhudurg Collector Trupti Dhodmise, and Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Ravindra Khebudkar.
