Six Passengers Rescued After Lift Stalls at Churchgate Metro Station

Six passengers were safely rescued within five minutes after being briefly trapped inside an elevator at Churchgate Metro Station on the Mumbai Metro 3 Aqua Line on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident took place at around 1.45 pm when Lift No. 5 at the underground station developed a technical snag. The glass elevator halted between two floors, leaving the occupants stranded inside.

Officials from the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), which oversees operations on Mumbai Metro Line 3, stated that the stoppage was caused by a technical glitch. The issue was attended to immediately by station staff and technical teams.

All six passengers were evacuated without any injuries reported. A photograph that emerged from the station showed the commuters waiting inside the glass lift while it remained stuck between the floors.

The MMRC confirmed that the lift was subsequently restored to normal operations following the evacuation. While the brief breakdown caused momentary concern among commuters at the underground station, the swift response prevented any further disruptions.

Churchgate serves as a key underground station on Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, connecting south Mumbai with the northern suburbs of the city.
