A 17-year-old student of SK Somaiya College sustained severe head injuries in Vidyavihar on Tuesday afternoon after an iron rod flew from a civic demolition site and struck him. The victim, identified as Deven V Jain, required 15 stitches following the incident.

The accident took place around 3:30 PM while Jain, a first-year undergraduate student, was walking towards the Vidyavihar railway station.

At the time of the incident, civic workers were demolishing a shop as part of ongoing road-widening work near the railway station. The road-widening is taking place in connection with the construction of the Vidyavihar East-West flyover bridge in the area.

While Jain was passing by the site, an iron rod flew from the demolition zone and hit him directly on the head, causing severe injuries.
