Speeding Bike Hits Two Police Officers at R.A.K. Marg Nakabandi, Three Held
Two police officers were injured after a speeding motorcycle carrying three people allegedly rammed into them during a traffic nakabandi at Dnyaneshwar Junction near R.A.K. Marg in central Mumbai on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm on August 26 on the northbound carriageway from Zakaria Bunder Road towards Wadala station.
Police have registered a case against the rider, 20-year-old Ibrahim Qadar Tamboli, and two pillion riders, Nikhil Somnath Jaiswar, 22, and Arman Firoz Khan, 19, all residents of Dharavi.
According to the First Information Report filed by complainant Police Constable Jitendra Laxman Pardeshi of the R.A.K. Marg police station Crime Detection Team, personnel had been deployed from 8 am on law-and-order duty in connection with Eid-e-Milad arrangements. Senior Police Inspector Vinod Tawde, night-duty Police Inspector Jitendra Kuwar, PI Aidaile, Police Sub-Inspector Shelar, and other personnel were present at the spot regulating traffic.
Officers spotted a Bajaj Pulsar 220 carrying three individuals being ridden at high speed and producing loud noise. When PI Kuwar and other personnel signalled the rider to halt, Tamboli allegedly accelerated and rode directly towards the officers instead of stopping.
The motorcycle hit PI Kuwar, causing an injury to his right leg. Tamboli then allegedly accelerated again and, a short distance ahead, rammed into Senior PI Vinod Tawde. Tawde fell to the ground, and his head struck the footrest of another motorcycle parked nearby. He sustained serious injuries to the front of his head and right leg and was immediately taken in a government vehicle to Gleneagles Hospital in Parel for treatment.
After the collision, the motorcycle crashed into another two-wheeler stopped in traffic, causing Tamboli, Jaiswar, and Khan to fall onto the road. The three individuals allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but were chased and apprehended by police personnel before being taken to the police station.
Police found that the motorcycle had no visible number plates at the front or rear. Using the vehicle's chassis number and an e-challan machine, officers traced the motorcycle to registration number MH-47-F-6556, which Tamboli admitted belonged to him. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act, and further investigation is underway.
