Three Dead After Speeding BMW Flies Off Mumbai Bridge into Construction Site
Three young men were killed and another person was critically injured after a speeding BMW lost control, flew off a bridge, and slammed into a construction site in Mumbai yesterday. The luxury car involved in the fatal crash had also been involved in a separate road accident earlier this year, according to people familiar with the matter.
Mumbai Police stated that the black BMW was being driven by 21-year-old Shanay Falgun Gajjar before the fatal crash occurred. According to the police, the car was speeding before Gajjar lost control of the vehicle.
The impact of the crash killed Gajjar and two teenage passengers who were inside the car. The deceased teenagers have been identified as 17-year-old Dhairya Darshit Sheth and 18-year-old Aditya Jakasania.
A fourth occupant travelling in the BMW has been identified as 23-year-old Aditya Oswal. Oswal suffered critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently fighting for his life.
The fatal crash was captured on a CCTV camera, which showed the BMW falling off the bridge. The severity of the accident was evident from the sheer extent of the damage inflicted on the vehicle. The car tore through a signboard hanging from the bridge before crashing into the construction site. The roof of the car was pushed inwards, the windshield was completely shattered, and the bonnet was completely destroyed.
Following yesterday's accident, another road incident involving the same BMW earlier this year has come to light. On March 29, a resident of Mumbai named Omkar Shirke had filed a police complaint, alleging that the BMW had rammed into the vehicle in which he and his wife had been travelling.
Shirke had also recorded a mobile phone video of the aftermath of that March collision. That video has now gone viral on social media. In the mobile footage, a young man who allegedly drove the BMW spoke rudely with Shirke and appeared confrontational.
Both the viral mobile video recorded after the March accident and the CCTV footage that showed the BMW falling off the bridge have now come into sharp focus following the fatal crash in Mumbai.
