Three Men Drown in Creek at Retibunder in Thane

Three men drowned after entering the creek near the Ganesh Visarjan Ghat at Retibunder, alongside the Mumbai-Nashik Highway in Thane (West), on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased have been identified as Alam Sayyed, 42, Rizwan Sayyed, 42, and Sahil Polandas, 30, all residents of Thakurpada in Mumbra.

Emergency services received an alert regarding the incident at approximately 3:08 PM. According to officials, the three men had entered the water for a swim but were quickly overwhelmed after misjudging the depth and the strong currents of the creek.

A joint emergency response operation was launched immediately, involving personnel from the Kalwa and Narpoli Police Stations, the Thane Fire Brigade, the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC), and the Thane Disaster Response Force (TDRF). Emergency units were supported at the scene by fire engines, rescue boats, and ambulances.

Rescue teams deployed boats into the water to search for the victims. Officials noted that while the currents in the creek were tricky, rescue personnel managed to locate and extract all three individuals from the water by 4:20 PM.

Following the recovery, the three men were handed over to police officers at the site and transported via ambulance to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa. Doctors at the hospital declared all three victims brought dead upon arrival.

Officers from the Kalwa Police Station confirmed that further legal procedures and the process to file an Accidental Death Report (ADR) are underway.
