Vantara Submits Voluntary CITES Commitments to Indian Authorities

Wildlife initiative Vantara has submitted a set of voluntary commitments to the CITES Management Authority of India on Wednesday, aiming to strengthen its governance, transparency, and due diligence in wildlife conservation.
The newly submitted commitments have been shared with the Indian CITES Management Authority and formally filed with the Supreme Court of India for overall compliance. The measures are designed to ensure complete confidence in Vantara's adherence to the regulations of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
According to the details of the submission, the move signals a strategic shift in the organization's approach to animal welfare and preservation. The commitments mark a decisive transition in focus from ex situ conservation toward in situ conservation initiatives.
Under this enhanced framework, increased support will be directed toward protecting wildlife within their natural range states. A primary focus of this strategic shift will be centered on conservation efforts within India.
The initiative emphasizes governance and accountability in conservation practices, setting formal operational standards aligned with international wildlife trade and preservation guidelines under the CITES framework.
