Woman Dies, Four Injured After Car Rams Bike and Three Autos in Malad West

A 35-year-old former lawyer, Priyanka Satra, died and four others sustained injuries after an MG Windsor car rammed a motorcycle and three autorickshaws at the Mamledarwadi junction in Malad West on Sunday night.

The collision took place around 8:00 pm when Priyanka and her husband, Mayank, were travelling home on a motorcycle and stopped at a red signal at the junction. The car allegedly crashed into the rear of their two-wheeler before ploughing into three autorickshaws.

The impact left both Priyanka and Mayank seriously injured. Priyanka succumbed to her injuries during medical treatment. Mayank is reported to be out of danger but requires further surgical procedures.

Three autorickshaw drivers were also injured in the multi-vehicle crash. They have been identified as 50-year-old Subhedarchandra Chaudhary, 35-year-old Ramkesh Rajbhar, and 25-year-old Abdul Shaikh. An autorickshaw passenger, 48-year-old Jaitunabi Sab, sustained a severe head injury that required 20 stitches, according to BJP-nominated corporator Pravin Chheda.

Police arrested the 65-year-old car driver, Krushna Chamankar, who is reportedly a resident of the Versova-Andheri area. Investigators are probing whether he was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. Chamankar's blood sample was collected at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West and sent to a forensic laboratory in Kalina for chemical analysis.

Following the incident, corporator Pravin Chheda wrote a letter to Police Commissioner Deven Bharati demanding strict action and an official inquiry into allegations of VIP treatment being extended to Chamankar at the police station.

Chheda alleged that the victim's relatives witnessed Chamankar using a mobile phone and sitting on a chair inside the lock-up. He further alleged that the accused was later moved to an air-conditioned room at the rear of the police station under the pretext of conducting a medical examination.
