10 Injured After Hydraulic Crane Collapses in Kurla's Qureshi Nagar

Ten people, including a three-month-old infant, were injured after a large hydraulic crane collapsed onto slum huts and vehicles in Kurla’s Qureshi Nagar early on Friday. The incident triggered a major rescue operation in the densely populated area, with civic officials confirming that all victims are in stable condition.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Disaster Management Cell, the hydraulic crane was being used to lift a poclain machine to the top of a ground-plus-17-floor under-construction building, where demolition work was being conducted by M/s Sunny Company. During the operation, part of the crane collapsed and crashed onto nearby slum huts in Qureshi Nagar, a road in Samrat Ashok Nagar, the compound wall of an MHADA building, and three to four parked vehicles inside the compound.
The falling structure also struck overhead electric equipment on Central Railway's Kurla-Trombay goods line. Central Railway confirmed that passenger train services were not affected by the incident.
Eight of the injured were transported to Sion Hospital for treatment. They were identified as 63-year-old Jagrulla Nabi Moh. Khan, three-month-old Ahemed Niyaz Ahemed, 60-year-old Atikur Reman, 36-year-old Hakum Sheikh, 21-year-old Numan Khan, 19-year-old Rehman Khan, 10-year-old Suraj Gaur, and 40-year-old Akbar. Doctors at the facility confirmed that all eight patients are stable.
Two other victims, identified as 35-year-old Raju Gaud and 30-year-old Aarti Gaud, were admitted to Kurla Bhabha Hospital, where they are also undergoing treatment in stable condition.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) stated that the crane had been brought to the site for demolition work but had not yet commenced operations. While being positioned, the crane tilted and fell towards the adjacent construction. MMRDA noted that, prima facie, soft and muddy ground at the location compromised the machine's stability.
Emergency personnel, including the fire brigade and police, responded to the scene, while the MMRDA arranged machinery and manpower to remove the collapsed crane and secure the area.
