Worli Chauffeur Dies by Suicide at Mumbai Airport, Leaves Note Citing Illness

A 54-year-old chauffeur residing in Worli died by suicide on Thursday morning after jumping from the P10 level to the P4 level at Mumbai International Airport, according to police.

The deceased, identified as Pramod Jadhav, was stationed at the airport as part of his official duties. His work involved driving government officials, including judges, registrars, and bureaucrats. Authorities stated that he took the fatal step at around 11:30 am.

According to the Sahar police, Jadhav had been suffering from stage 2 chronic kidney disease (CKD) and had been depressed over his health condition for the past six months. Despite his illness, he had reported for duty as scheduled at around 8:30 am on Thursday.

Police recovered a suicide note written in Marathi, addressed to his wife and daughter. In the letter, Jadhav stated that no one was responsible for his decision to take his own life, explaining that he was tired of constantly taking medication without seeing any improvement in his health.

Senior Inspector Manoj Chalke confirmed that an accidental death report (ADR) was registered following the recovery of the suicide note.

Jadhav was the sole breadwinner for his household and is survived by his wife and a college-going daughter. His family members informed the police that he had left home normally on Thursday morning, though he had been struggling with depression over his medical condition.

Sahar police have sought CCTV footage from the airport premises to examine his movements and behaviour prior to the incident.
