11 Rescued After Fire Breaks Out at Kandivali West Commercial Building

Eleven people were safely rescued after a Level-I fire broke out at a commercial building on Kandiwali Station Road in Kandivali West early Monday morning, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s Mumbai Fire Brigade.

The incident was reported to the Mumbai Fire Brigade Control at around 4:14 a.m. The blaze broke out at Abhirai Hotel on Kandiwali Station Road.

Firefighters carried out rescue operations and evacuated 11 people safely through the staircase from a lodging house situated on the second floor. No injuries were reported in the incident.

The commercial structure comprises a basement, a ground floor, and four upper floors. Officials noted that the entire building became smoke-logged during the blaze.

According to an update from the fire brigade, the fire was confined to electrical wiring, electrical installations, wooden furniture, tarpaulin, bamboo, and plastic materials at an adjacent temporary fruit stall.

The blaze also spread to the fourth floor, where it affected clothes, wooden furniture, and a false ceiling over an area of approximately 50 square feet. Aluminium and plastic decorative sheets fitted to the exterior facade of the building were also damaged.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade classified the incident as a Level-I fire. Quick firefighting and rescue operations brought the blaze under control, and it was completely extinguished by 6:07 a.m.

Civic fire control authorities did not provide further details regarding the exact cause of the fire.
