16 Fall Ill After Suspected Food Poisoning in Kurla West

Sixteen residents from the Sundarbag area of Kurla West suffered suspected food poisoning after consuming momos, resulting in hospitalisation at Bhabha Hospital in Kurla.

The incident took place on the night of August 23, and those affected began developing health complications on August 24 before being brought to the medical facility. A total of 14 people were initially admitted to Bhabha Hospital, while two others, aged 13 and 14, received medical care through the hospital's outpatient department.

Dr Manoj Varma, Medical Superintendent of Bhabha Hospital, confirmed that seven patients remain admitted and are currently undergoing treatment under medical supervision. Their condition is reported to be stable, while the other patients have been discharged after receiving necessary care and were advised follow-up investigations where required.

The affected group includes five children aged between three and 13 years, along with teenagers and adults. According to hospital authorities, all patients presented with symptoms of vomiting and loose motions, with several individuals also reporting abdominal pain, fever, and giddiness.

Mumbai Municipal Corporation Health Committee Chairman Harish Bhandirge visited Bhabha Hospital to inspect the arrangements, interact with the affected patients, and review the medical treatment provided by the hospital administration.

Bhandirge gathered details of the incident from hospital authorities and directed civic officials to carry out an investigation into the matter. The inquiry aims to establish the exact cause of the illness, trace the source of the contaminated food, and initiate appropriate action.
