3 Arrested After 19-Year-Old Woman Gang-Raped in Palghar's Talasari
Police have arrested three men in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a 19-year-old woman in Talasari taluka of Palghar district. The attack took place on Sunday, August 9, near Dag Bungalow along a deserted stretch of road, after the survivor and her boyfriend suffered a road accident while returning from neighbouring Gujarat.
According to officials from the Talasari police station, the young woman and her boyfriend had traveled to Umargaon in Gujarat earlier on Sunday. While returning, their two-wheeler skidded and both riders fell off the vehicle near Aamgaon, located within the jurisdiction of the Talasari police station.
Taking advantage of the isolated and deserted stretch where the vehicle skidded, three men riding on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and began intimidating the couple. The three men then summoned three additional accomplices to the location. The group of six men assaulted the woman's boyfriend and chased him away from the site.
Following the assault on the boyfriend, the accused forcibly took the 19-year-old woman to a secluded spot near Dag Bungalow in Talasari, where she was allegedly gang-raped by the group of six men.
The survivor approached the Talasari police station on Monday to lodge an official complaint about the assault. Her boyfriend, who had fled the scene during the confrontation out of fear, also subsequently arrived at the police station to record his statement with investigating officers.
Following the registration of a gang-rape case, law enforcement officers launched an immediate investigation. Based on the survivor's statement, police arrested one accused initially, followed by the arrest of two additional suspects on Tuesday.
The survivor was taken for a medical examination following her complaint and is currently reported to be in stable condition. Police Inspector Ajay Gorad of the Talasari police station confirmed that special police teams have been formed and a hunt is currently underway to track down and apprehend the remaining three accused.
