IMD Issues Weather Warnings as Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging in Thane and Mumbai
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Yellow nowcast warning on Tuesday, August 11, as heavy rainfall led to waterlogging and traffic disruptions across Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai.
The nowcast warning, issued at 1:30 pm on August 11 and valid until 4:30 pm, forecast light to moderate rainfall at isolated places. The warning covers several districts, including Mumbai, Dhule, Nandurbar, Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Satara, Jalgaon, and Sangli.
Earlier in the day, the IMD issued an Orange nowcast warning for Mumbai Suburban, cautioning residents about impending thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds ranging between 40 and 60 kmph, and moderate rainfall measuring 5 to 15 mm per hour over the next few hours.
Heavy rain spells have already impacted daily movement across the region. Rain-related incidents, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions were reported at multiple locations, including Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai.
Concurrently, an intense spell of rain lasting two to three hours caused waterlogging on Naginadas Pada Road along the Nalasopara–Virar Road. Pedestrians were seen struggling to walk through the lane, while vehicular movement on the stretch was severely affected due to the downpour.
The IMD advised residents to remain cautious as intense spells of rain could lead to difficult travel conditions and waterlogging in vulnerable areas. Citizens were urged to stay indoors, check road and traffic conditions before travelling, and avoid unnecessary journeys during the warning period.
