8 Injured as Crane Topples onto Houses in Kurla East During Demolition Setup

Eight people were injured after a crane toppled onto houses in the Indira Nagar area of Kurla East early Friday morning during preparations for an eviction and demolition operation.

The incident took place around 3 am near Buntara Bhavan, a Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) building located behind Galaxy Apartment.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) L-ward personnel present at the site, MHADA was preparing to execute an eviction and demolition drive. The crane was in the process of being mounted for the planned operation when it lost balance and collapsed onto the adjacent houses, causing injuries to eight residents.

Emergency rescue teams were mobilised immediately following the collapse. Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, the 108 ambulance service, and municipal ward staff arrived at the location to assist the victims and clear the area.

Six of the injured persons were rushed to the civic-run Sion Hospital, while two others were admitted to Bhabha Hospital in Kurla. Hospital authorities stated that all eight individuals are in stable condition.

In addition to damaging homes, the collapse disrupted rail logistics in the sector. Goods train movement along the Central Railway's single-line Kurla-Trombay route was affected after sections of the falling crane struck the overhead electrical wires.
