8-Year-Old Boy Killed in Bandra Car Accident on John Baptist Road, Driver Arrested

An eight-year-old boy died on Sunday afternoon after being struck and run over by a car on John Baptist Road, opposite Jijamata Garden in Bandra.

The victim was identified by police as Ansh Ravindra Gupta. The child was crossing the road when he was hit by an Innova Crysta allegedly driven at excessive speed by a 45-year-old woman. Police identified the driver as Megha Rawal, a resident of Bandra, and confirmed that she has been arrested.

An eyewitness who saw the incident from outside his shop stated that the driver appeared to be distracted by her phone during the incident.

"The woman driving the car was completely engrossed in her phone. She didn't even know what happened. At least she could have pressed the brakes after running him over with the front tyre. He might have survived," Shiva, the shopkeeper, said.

According to the shopkeeper, the driver had an opportunity to stop the vehicle after the initial collision but continued moving forward.

"She didn't stop and ran over the back tyre too. Although later she stopped, she didn't even step out of the car, and neither turned down her windows," Shiva added.

The shopkeeper rushed toward the injured boy with a bottle of water following the collision. He noted that although the child did not have visible blood, he had sustained severe internal ruptures from the impact.

People gathered at the scene placed Ansh inside the same car and transported him to Holy Family Hospital, where medical staff attempted to provide treatment. Police reported that the child suffered severe injuries and was declared dead at the hospital.

Police have registered a case against Rawal under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
