Aaditya Thackeray Expresses Grief Over Devastating Nepal Flash Floods

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the devastating flash floods in parts of Nepal, describing the visuals emerging from the affected areas as truly heart-wrenching and scary.

Taking to social media platform X, the Mumbai-based leader wrote that the loss of human life, property, and the impact on the region at large was truly devastating. He stated that he was praying for the safety and recovery of those trapped in the deluge and hoped assistance would reach them swiftly.

More than 95 people have reportedly died and widespread destruction has been reported across parts of Nepal following a sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi River. The surge swept through northern parts of the country, leaving several people missing, including 105 Indian nationals.

The flash floods struck the Bhote Koshi River at around 9 am local time. Authorities indicated that the flood surge originated from the direction of the Chinese side of the border before traveling downstream into the Trishuli River, inundating Nuwakot and nearby downstream communities.

The disaster has inflicted severe damage on infrastructure across the Nuwakot and Rasuwa regions. In Nuwakot, around 60 houses near Trishuli Bazaar were washed away, and two bridges over the Trishuli River were damaged or destroyed. The floodwaters also swept away vehicles, domestic goods, and other property, forcing residents to seek safety.

Rescue and relief operations remain underway across the affected districts. Around eight bodies have so far been recovered from Nuwakot and Dhading, and the death toll is feared to rise as rescue teams continue to search cut-off zones and damaged roadways.
