Agent Apologises to Amit Thackeray Over 'Vegetarian Only' Flat Listing in Tardeo

Real-estate agent Bhavesh Kaware has issued a public apology to Mumbaikars and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Amit Thackeray after sparking controversy by demanding only "pure vegetarian" buyers for a Rs 6.5-crore flat in Tardeo, south Mumbai.
Kaware tendered the apology on Saturday after meeting Thackeray at Shivteerth, the MNS headquarters and residence of party chief Raj Thackeray. The meeting came in the wake of widespread public backlash over a promotional video Kaware had shared online.
In the video, which was later deleted, Kaware advertised a nearly completed 900-square-foot, two-bedroom apartment in an upcoming high-rise in Tardeo. While highlighting the property's panoramic views of south Mumbai and the sea, Kaware explicitly stated that only "pure vegetarian clients" should contact him about the Rs 6.50-crore flat. The condition prompted sharp criticism on social media, with citizens questioning discriminatory housing practices.
During their meeting at Shivteerth, Thackeray reprimanded Kaware for the listing and subsequent follow-up videos, telling him to tender an apology to the residents of the city. Thackeray noted that Mumbai was already dealing with numerous issues and urged that public attention not be diverted toward such matters.
Speaking after the meeting, Kaware expressed regret over his statements. He stated that if his words had hurt the sentiments of Mumbaikars, he sincerely apologised to both Amit Thackeray and the city's residents. Kaware added that he did not wish to escalate the matter further and would proceed in accordance with the legal process.
Kaware also noted that he has consistently provided housing to Marathi people and mentioned that he owns chicken shops, offering an apology to the customers who visit his businesses as well.
