Ambulance Driver Killed in Bhayandar Road Dispute, Four Arrested

A 45-year-old ambulance driver was killed after being assaulted and pushed into the path of a speeding container during a dispute over wrong-side driving on Mira-Bhayandar Road in Bhayandar late on Monday night. Police have arrested four men in connection with the fatal incident.

The victim, identified as Sainath Chavan, worked as an ambulance driver at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital in Bhayandar. According to police, the incident occurred around 2:00 am on Monday while Chavan was riding his motorcycle towards Bhayandar.

Investigators said a Hyundai cab approached from the wrong direction near Gandharva Bar. Chavan stopped his two-wheeler and questioned the cab driver, 32-year-old Sagar Samgistar, about driving against the flow of traffic.

A heated argument broke out between the two motorists. Two passengers inside the cab, identified as Rakesh Chandivade, 40, and Satish Asbe, 33, then stepped out of the vehicle. The men allegedly assaulted Chavan before pushing him onto the active roadway.

At the same moment, a speeding container approached the spot and ran over Chavan, killing him instantly.

Following the incident, the victim's brother, Kalpesh Chavan, filed a police complaint alleging that the accused deliberately pushed his brother into the direct path of the oncoming container.

Based on the complaint, the Naya Nagar police registered a case against the four accused under Sections 103, 105(1), 115(2), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, and placed them under arrest.

Naya Nagar Senior Police Inspector Amar Jagdale confirmed the arrests and stated that further investigation into the matter is underway. Officials are currently examining CCTV footage and surrounding evidence to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the fatal collision.
