Biker Pushed Under Truck After Wrong-Side Driving Dispute in Bhayander, 4 Held
A 45-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being assaulted and pushed under a moving container truck during a dispute over wrong-side driving on Mira-Bhayander Road in the early hours of Monday.
Naya Nagar police have arrested four people in connection with the fatal incident, including three men from a taxi who assaulted the biker and the driver of the container truck that ran over him. All four accused have been booked on murder charges and other relevant sections.
The deceased, identified as Sainath Chavan, worked as an ambulance driver at Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Hospital in Bhayander.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 2:00 am when Chavan was riding towards Bhayander. While on Mira-Bhayander Road, he noticed a taxi approaching from the wrong direction against the flow of traffic. Chavan stopped the cab and questioned its driver, 32-year-old Sagar Samgistar, about driving on the wrong side.
The confrontation quickly escalated into an argument. Two passengers travelling in the taxi, identified by police as Rakesh Chandivade, 40, and Satish Asbe, 33, allegedly joined the altercation, assaulted Chavan, and shoved him onto the road. At that exact moment, a speeding container truck passed by and ran over Chavan, killing him on the spot.
Following the incident, the victim's brother, Kalpesh Chavan, lodged a formal complaint with the police.
"Based on a complaint filed by Chavan’s brother Kalpesh, a case was registered against the four accused under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 103 (murder), 105(1) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 115(2) (causes simple physical pain, disease, or infirmity to another person) and 281 (rash or negligent driving or riding endangering human life or likely to cause injury), along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act," said Amar Jagdale, senior police inspector at Naya Nagar police station.
Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV camera footage from the stretch and gathering additional evidence to establish the exact sequence of events that led to Chavan's death.
