BKC Police Book MSEDCL and BMC Officials for Skipping Electoral Duty

The BKC police in Mumbai registered a First Information Report on Monday against two officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for allegedly failing to perform assigned election duties related to the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.

The accused officers were identified as Manoj Kulkarni, a deputy manager handling finance and accounts at MSEDCL, and Atul Waghmare, an executive assistant with the BMC sewage department. Kulkarni was assigned to serve as an assistant electoral registration officer, while Waghmare was appointed as a booth-level officer for the electoral revision drive.

According to the complaint filed by Yuvraj Gadvi, a deputy tehsildar for elections with the revenue department, both individuals were officially relieved from their primary workplace responsibilities and instructed to report for special intensive revision duties. However, neither official turned up to perform the assigned tasks.

In his complaint, Gadvi noted that he sent multiple notices to the department heads of both officials via WhatsApp messages and email on June 17 and June 18 to highlight the breach of orders and demand compliance.

Following the receipt of the complaint on Monday, the BKC police initiated an investigation. A BKC police officer stated that the department received the complaint and registered the FIR, adding that those named in the case will be summoned for questioning before further actions are initiated.
