BMC Builds ₹285-Crore Flyover Linking Dr E Moses Road and Annie Besant Road in Worli
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has undertaken the construction of a ₹285-crore elevated corridor in Worli, designed to establish a direct link between Dr E Moses Road and Dr Annie Besant Road. Spanning a length of 571 metres, the flyover project aims to ease traffic congestion by connecting two prominent landmarks: the Nehru Science Centre and the Nehru Planetarium. Civic authorities have set a completion target of February 2027 for the bridge.
According to the civic body's plan, the flyover will feature an overall width of 18.3 metres. The engineering work involves constructing the elevated structure across a major drain situated near the Nehru Science Centre, directly bridging the transit gap between the two major arterial roads in Worli.
At present, although the Nehru Science Centre and the Nehru Planetarium are located close to each other, motorists travelling between the two sites cannot cross over directly. Instead, drivers must take a roughly two-kilometre detour through the heavily congested Worli Naka junction, which routinely creates vehicular slowdowns.
The new 571-metre flyover is designed to eliminate this two-kilometre detour entirely. By establishing a direct passage across the area, the elevated road will provide more direct east-west connectivity for local commuters.
The municipal corporation noted that the bridge will particularly benefit motorists travelling from Lower Parel and Currey Road towards the Coastal Road and Pedder Road. For these drivers, the elevated corridor will offer a considerably shorter alternative to the existing route through the area's congested intersections.
In addition to vehicular lanes, the civic project incorporates dedicated pedestrian infrastructure. The blueprint includes a dedicated footpath running alongside the flyover, as well as a pedestrian underpass linking the Nehru Science Centre directly with the Nehru Planetarium.
The BMC expects the new connection to improve overall traffic movement across Worli. By providing a direct transit route between Dr E Moses Road and Dr Annie Besant Road, the flyover will reduce motorists' reliance on the crowded Worli Naka junction.
