BMC Installs View-Cutters and Barricades on Parel Bridge for Ganpati

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) F North ward has installed barricades and green cloth view-cutters along the Parel bridge to prevent dangerous crowding and traffic hazards during the 10-day Ganpati festival processions.

The civic body implemented the safety measures following recommendations from local police, who flagged serious concerns over large gatherings on the structure. The bridge, located near the ITC Grand Central hotel in Parel, has traditionally served as a major vantage point for residents and devotees attempting to catch glimpses of passing idols and take darshan.

Authorities noted that people gathering along the bridge's edges and motorists abruptly halting their vehicles have repeatedly created risky conditions during the annual festival.

Senior Police Inspector Adinath Gawde of the Kalachowkie police station stated that the bridge has long attracted crowds during the celebrations. He noted that over the last several years, authorities observed large crowds gathering and vehicles stopping, leading to hazardous situations. The police consequently suggested putting up the view-cutters to safeguard the public.

The newly installed green cloth screens and barricades are intended to obstruct sightlines from the roadway, thereby discouraging spectators from lingering on the bridge and preventing traffic disruption along the route during the festive period.
