BMC to Host Rakhi Exhibition by Women's Self-Help Groups and Divyang Students

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will host a special exhibition and sale featuring rakhis and handicrafts made by women’s self-help groups (SHGs) and Divyang students from BMC special schools ahead of Raksha Bandhan.

The event has been organized on the initiative of Minal Turde, Chairperson of the BMC Women and Child Welfare Committee, and is being implemented through the civic body's Planning Department. The primary objective is to encourage women’s self-help groups by offering them a direct market for their handmade products.

The main exhibition and sale will be hosted at the BMC Headquarters on August 24, running from 10 am to 6 pm. In addition to the central event, similar exhibitions will take place across all BMC administrative department and ward offices on August 24 and August 25 between 10 am and 6 pm.

Visitors at the exhibitions will be able to browse and purchase a variety of items made by women’s self-help groups, including eco-friendly rakhis, homemade food items, decorative crafts, and traditional handicrafts. The initiative seeks to promote the skills, labour, and financial independence of participating women during the festive period.

A key feature of the exhibition will be a collection of rakhis designed and handmade by Divyang students enrolled in BMC special schools. The civic body noted that displaying these items at dedicated stalls will give the students an opportunity to showcase their artistic skills, express their creativity, and build confidence.

A dedicated stall will be set up inside the BMC Headquarters, alongside stalls across departmental and ward offices during the two-day exhibition schedule.

The BMC has appealed to Mumbai residents to visit the exhibition at the civic headquarters or at their local ward offices to support the economic self-reliance of women's SHGs and celebrate the talents of Divyang students.
