BNCMC Steps Up Monsoon Health Campaign in Bhiwandi to Curb Vector-Borne Diseases

The Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) has stepped up preventive health measures across its jurisdiction in Bhiwandi to curb the spread of vector-borne and water-borne diseases during the monsoon season, including dengue and malaria.
The municipal health department launched a comprehensive campaign that includes disease surveillance, awareness drives, mosquito control operations, and the strengthening of local healthcare services. The initiative is being rolled out through 20 Urban Health Centres, 29 Health and Wellness Centres, 10 Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray clinics, and BGP Hospital.
As part of the ground operations, health workers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives, and Accredited Social Health Activists have been deployed to conduct door-to-door surveys. The teams are identifying suspected cases of seasonal diseases while educating residents on hygiene and preventive steps.
To curb mosquito breeding, the civic body established guppy fish breeding centres near municipal health facilities. The fish feed on mosquito larvae in water bodies. In addition, the civic Health and Sanitation Departments have intensified periodic fogging and insecticide spraying across vulnerable areas.
The Water Supply Department has also been directed to collect drinking water samples regularly and send them to the Government Laboratory in Thane for quality testing to ensure safe potable water supply throughout the rainy season.
Preventive guidelines have been issued to various sectors. The civic body instructed tyre repair shop owners to prevent stagnant water accumulation in discarded tyres. Letters were also sent to builders, property owners, and construction managers directing them to apply larvicidal treatments, such as temephos, in water-filled ducts and potential breeding spots.
Private hospitals, government facilities, clinics, and diagnostic laboratories within municipal limits have been instructed to submit regular disease surveillance reports. Civic officials stated that adequate stocks of essential medicines have been arranged at municipal warehouses to maintain uninterrupted treatment for seasonal illnesses.
