Car and Taxi Crash Inside Coastal Road Tunnel on Worli Route Triggers Traffic Snarls

A collision between a car and a taxi inside the Coastal Road tunnel along the route heading towards Worli triggered severe traffic congestion during the evening rush on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The incident brought vehicular movement on the key South Mumbai corridor to a crawl.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 pm while both vehicles were travelling from Nariman Point towards Worli. The collision inside the tunnel section immediately blocked the passage, bringing peak-hour traffic to a standstill behind the crash site.
The impact caused widespread disruption, leading to long queues of vehicles along the Nariman Point-Worli stretch. Motorists faced heavy delays as the snarl extended back from the tunnel, affecting traffic movement across South Mumbai.
Traffic police personnel and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) teams were deployed to the tunnel following the crash. Emergency teams worked at the site to remove the damaged car and taxi from the roadway and ease the congestion.
