Car Catches Fire Inside Coastal Road Tunnel in Worli

A moving car caught fire inside the Coastal Road tunnel on the carriageway from Haji Ali to Worli on Wednesday afternoon, triggering panic among motorists and prompting an emergency response from multiple local agencies.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:25 pm, at which time the Mumbai Fire Brigade Control Room received an emergency report regarding the vehicle fire inside the tunnel.

Emergency personnel, including members of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police, and 108 ambulance staff, were immediately dispatched to the scene to handle the crisis and secure the area.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Satyanarayan Chaudhari confirmed that the fire was successfully extinguished. He stated that northbound traffic was restarted shortly after the incident.

According to Chaudhari, one lane of the southbound traffic was scheduled to be reopened within ten minutes of his update, and traffic was expected to return to normal quickly.

No injuries have been reported from the incident. The cause of the vehicle fire has not yet been determined, and further details are awaited.
