Chakan Road Repairs and Encroachment Removal Ordered by August 31

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar on Wednesday directed government departments and agencies to coordinate closely to resolve pending infrastructure and civic issues in the Chakan industrial hub in Pune district.

Reviewing the high-level committee formed for Chakan's development, Pawar set a strict deadline of August 31 for authorities to repair potholes on roads across the area. She said a comprehensive roadmap had been prepared covering road repairs, traffic congestion, parking management, security, waste disposal, and illegal encroachments.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi stated that an action plan featuring immediate and long-term measures has been prepared for the Pune-Chakan industrial belt. Under the plan, pothole and road shoulder repairs will conclude by August 31. Anti-encroachment operations along roads are scheduled to begin on Friday, with officials aiming to complete the drive within a month.

To ease severe traffic bottlenecks, authorities are setting up dedicated parking spaces in the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) area, which are expected to become operational within a week to clear trucks parked along roadsides. The administration is also evaluating restrictions on heavy vehicle movements during peak hours and changes to industrial shift schedules.

Pawar highlighted that the rapid rise in population, industrial activity, and vehicular movement necessitated stronger civic infrastructure and security. The administration is moving to deploy 100 additional security personnel starting next week and is evaluating the need for new police stations in the belt.

Addressing waste management along access routes into Chakan, Pawar noted that land has been identified for a waste-processing facility intended to serve 19 villages alongside the MIDC area.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Choubey said the police administration is expanding infrastructure to match urban and industrial growth, adding that road widening and encroachment clearance would facilitate smoother traffic flow.

Pawar affirmed that MIDC, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), and other civic bodies will continue coordinated action to upgrade facilities across the industrial area.
