Dadar Police Arrest Estate Agent Anil Mane for Duping Cancer Patient of Rs 40 Lakh
The Dadar police station has registered a case and arrested a 36-year-old estate agent, identified as Anil Mane, for allegedly duping a woman suffering from cancer of Rs 40 lakh. Mane, who operates as the proprietor of Om Sai Enterprises, allegedly lured the victim with promises of securing a Mhada apartment under the reserved category in the Dadar-Parel region of Mumbai.
The police investigation was initiated after the cancer patient lodged an official complaint at the Dadar police station on July 16. The matter dates back to July 2021, when the victim was searching for a residential property to purchase within the Dadar-Parel belt.
According to police details, the victim was introduced to Mane through a mutual acquaintance. This common acquaintance claimed that the accused possessed the ability to arrange flats under Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) schemes as well as mill workers' housing allocations across Mumbai.
Following the introduction in July 2021, Mane allegedly showed the complainant a specific flat located inside the Srinivas Mill Complex at Lower Parel. He offered to facilitate the purchase of this Lower Parel flat for a negotiated sum of Rs 38 lakh.
Relying on Mane's assurances, the woman agreed to the deal and transferred Rs 10 lakh to Om Sai Enterprises as a booking amount using the NEFT banking facility. Over time, she made additional financial payments through bank transactions as well as in cash, bringing the total amount paid to Rs 40 lakh.
Police stated that Mane executed a written agreement acknowledging that he had received the booking amount, and he further assured the complainant that the flat would be legally transferred into her name.
Despite receiving the money, the estate agent failed to deliver on his promise, and the flat in the Srinivas Mill Complex was never handed over to the woman. When pressed regarding the deal, Mane issued a partial refund cheque worth Rs 15 lakh to the complainant. However, this cheque dishonoured and bounced upon presentation, prompting the victim to approach the Dadar police, leading to Mane's arrest.
