FDA Suspends Cafe Cadell's Licence Near Mahim-Shivaji Park Over Hygiene Lapses

Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence of Cafe Cadell, an eatery located near Mahim-Shivaji Park in Mumbai, following an inspection that revealed multiple violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.

According to official reports, the food safety inspection revealed that the outlet was failing to adhere to mandatory food safety protocols. During the visit, FDA officials discovered dirty and unclean cutlery on the premises. Investigators also observed that vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were being mixed together, creating potential health risks and raising serious concerns regarding food cross-contamination.

The inspection team further identified several structural and operational deficiencies within the kitchen environment. The restaurant was found to have inadequate kitchen ventilation and insufficient pest-control measures in place. Officials also recorded the use of unsuitable food-contact equipment and noted that the flooring across the facility was slippery and non-compliant with prescribed food safety standards.

In addition to kitchen conditions, the hygiene standards and facilities for staff were flagged by the regulatory authorities. Reports stated that the outlet failed to provide basic handwashing and personal hygiene facilities for its employees. Food safety inspectors also observed that staff members' clothing and nails were unhygienic during operations.

The regulatory action taken against Cafe Cadell is part of an ongoing statewide food safety enforcement drive. The initiative is being conducted under the leadership and guidance of FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe to monitor and enforce strict hygiene compliance across food establishments in Maharashtra.
