Hoarding Collapses on Pokhran Road No. 2 in Thane Blocking Traffic

A massive road hoarding collapsed in the Gandhinagar–Subhashnagar area along Pokhran Road No. 2 in Thane on Monday, completely halting all vehicular traffic. The incident, which was triggered by continuous heavy rainfall and gusty winds, prompted an immediate response from the local disaster management team and traffic police personnel. No casualties or injuries were reported from the scene.

The heavy hoarding had been installed on a road divider before it came crashing down onto the rain-soaked roadway. The collapse occurred amid powerful winds that have been battering the city for two consecutive days. Photographs from the scene showed the massive metal structure sprawled across the road, with debris scattered around the vicinity.

Following the collapse, officials from the disaster management team and traffic police personnel rushed to the spot. Civic workers and emergency personnel quickly cordoned off the area to begin clearing the metal structure and scattered debris, aiming to restore normal traffic movement along Pokhran Road No. 2.

The incident occurred while a Red Alert remained in force for Thane and neighbouring districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued the alert due to the continuous heavy rainfall, urging local citizens to avoid any unnecessary travel amid the deteriorating weather conditions.

In addition to the hoarding collapse, the heavy downpour has led to reports of waterlogging and flooding in the region. Consequently, local schools and colleges were declared closed for the day, and private offices were advised to allow their employees to work from home due to the adverse weather conditions.
