IMD Forecasts Light Rain and Gusty Winds for Mumbai With No Alert Issued
Mumbai and its suburbs experienced overcast skies and gusty winds on Thursday morning as monsoon activity continued across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast light rainfall during the day, confirming that no rain alerts have been issued for the city for the remainder of the week.
According to the weather department, Mumbai and adjoining areas are likely to remain generally cloudy, with light showers expected across several locations. Although widespread heavy rainfall is not anticipated, isolated pockets across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) could witness moderate to heavy spells accompanied by gusty winds.
Wind speeds are projected to hover between 40 kmph and 50 kmph, with gusts potentially reaching 50 kmph to 60 kmph during more intense rain spells. The IMD recorded a minimum temperature of 28°C on Thursday morning, while the maximum temperature is expected to reach around 32°C.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region has recorded consistent monsoon conditions since the beginning of August, following multiple spells of moderate to heavy rainfall over the past week. The IMD expects light to moderate showers to persist through the week, keeping the city and its surrounding regions cloudy and wet.
Alongside the monsoon activity, Mumbai's air quality remained in the 'Good' category on Thursday morning. Official monitoring data recorded the city's overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 23.
Under standard classification norms, an AQI reading between 0 and 50 represents 'Good' air quality with minimal health risks. Readings between 51 and 100 are marked as 'Moderate', 101 to 200 as 'Poor', 201 to 300 as 'Unhealthy', and levels above 300 are classified as 'Severe'.
With no active rain alerts in place, residents are expected to see intermittent light showers rather than widespread downpours over the coming days, though commuters have been advised to remain cautious during periods of stronger winds and localized heavy spells.
