IMD Warns Of Heavy Rain And Flash Floods In Maharashtra From July 3 To July 7

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Maharashtra, specifically highlighting the Konkan region and ghat areas, from July 3 to July 7, 2026. Alongside the heavy precipitation forecast, the weather department has issued a flood alert due to the anticipated impact of the intensified monsoon.
According to the latest weather bulletin from the IMD, the surge in monsoon activity is being driven by three major meteorological systems. An offshore trough is currently extending from the Maharashtra coast down to the Karnataka coast. At the same time, a low-pressure area has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal.
In addition to these systems, meteorologists have observed an active shear zone positioned around 21 degrees North. Together, these atmospheric conditions are driving the heavy precipitation across the state.
The IMD has warned of potential flash floods during this five-day period. Localized inundation is highly possible, particularly in low-lying areas and urban centers that are prone to waterlogging. The alert remains active from July 3 through July 7, 2026, as the intensified monsoon conditions continue to impact the region.
