Maharashtra Censorship Board Mandates Suitability Certificate for DJ Lavani Shows

The Maharashtra State Stage Performance Censorship Board has made suitability certificates mandatory for all public performances of Lavani and other folk entertainment formats, including DJ Lavani shows across the state.

Under the new directive, police authorities have been instructed to verify that organisers possess a valid suitability certificate issued by the board before granting permission for any public performance.

The board issued the directive following multiple complaints regarding the presentation of folk performances. Reports indicated that events featuring popular female dancers were being promoted and staged under the label of traditional Lavani, while actually incorporating film songs, DJ music, and allegedly obscene dance routines.

By enforcing the requirement for prior certification, the board aims to address the alleged misuse of the traditional Lavani art form and regulate modern public adaptations such as DJ Lavani.
