Maharashtra FDA Plans 12-Month Festival Calendar to Tackle Food Adulteration

Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has announced a 12-month festival calendar designed to conduct targeted checks against food adulteration across the state.

Speaking at a press meet at the Mumbai Press Club on Wednesday, Mundhe stated that the initiative aims to intensify inspections of high-risk food categories during festive periods throughout the year.

The newly planned calendar maps out structured enforcement actions timed around major celebrations. According to Mundhe, the strategy is intended to make the FDA's anti-adulteration drives more organised and festival-specific, addressing periods when food demand and consumption see a significant surge.

The regulatory body noted that the risk of food adulteration rises sharply during festivals, making targeted surveillance essential to ensure food safety and protect consumers.

While detailed operational plans and specific schedules are yet to be disclosed, the enforcement framework will focus on monitoring and inspecting food items most susceptible to adulteration during festive seasons across Maharashtra.
