Maharashtra FDA Suspends Food License of Ayub's in Fort Over Safety Violations
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended the food business license of popular eatery Ayub's in Fort on August 23, 2026, following the discovery of multiple food-safety and hygiene violations during an official inspection.
The action was part of a broader regulatory drive across the state in which the FDA inspected 37 hotels, restaurants, and dhabas. Officials issued improvement notices to 31 establishments, suspended the licenses of four food businesses, and seized approximately 60,709.8 kg of food stock valued at ₹2,24,61,888.
Inspectors visited Ayub's on August 22, 2026, and identified severe lapses in basic food safety controls. The restaurant lacked temperature control facilities and stored high-risk items, including eggs, at room temperature. Officials also found that raw and cooked foods were not properly segregated, posing a significant risk of cross-contamination and microbial growth.
The food-handling area at the Fort establishment was found to be unclean, featuring open and poorly maintained drains, stagnant water, and the presence of houseflies. The outlet had not implemented required pest control measures or provided adequate personal hygiene facilities for food handlers. Furthermore, required testing of food products had not been conducted, and traceability records were found to be deficient. The FDA suspended the restaurant's Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license the following day.
In Kurla West, the FDA suspended the license of Sankalp Mahila Audyogik Utpadak Sahakari Sanstha Maryadit, located at Wadia Estate, with further legal and administrative proceedings initiated.
In Nagpur, authorities suspended the licenses of Burhampur Jalebi Centre in Pratap Nagar and Step In Restaurant at Law College Square after routine inspections revealed non-compliance with hygiene standards under Schedule 4 of the Food Safety and Standards Regulations.
The FDA also carried out major stock seizures across Maharashtra. In Pune, officials seized 4,317 kg of items worth ₹7.27 lakh from Trimurti Enterprises in Wadaki, which was operating without a valid license. In Jalgaon district, 396.8 kg of suspected adulterated loose soybean oil was confiscated from Zam Zam Kirana in Adawad. Additionally, 55,996 kg of roasted arecanut valued at approximately ₹2.24 crore was seized from Gourish Agro Pvt. Ltd. in Kalamna, Nagpur.
