Maharashtra Honours Kargil Heroes and War Widows at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai
The Maharashtra government felicitated Kargil war heroes, war widows, and mothers of martyrs during a solemn ceremony organised on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas at Lok Bhavan in Mumbai. Addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar stated that the state government will always stand firmly with war widows, mothers of martyrs, and the families of serving and retired soldiers through Maharashtra's Sainik Welfare Board.
The felicitation programme was jointly organised by the Maharashtra government and the Swarninad Foundation to honour the sacrifice of armed forces personnel. Tributes were paid to the soldiers who lost their lives in the Kargil War, while war widows and mothers of martyrs were formally felicitated during the function held at the state venue.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar emphasised the state's rich historical tradition of service and bravery. She noted that Maharashtra has inherited the great legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's ideals and valour, stating that the state has always remained at the forefront when it comes to serving the nation and performing its duty.
Pawar added that during the Kargil War, several soldiers from Maharashtra made invaluable contributions through their courage, sacrifice, and supreme devotion to the nation. She reiterated that the state administration remains dedicated to ensuring the welfare and support of military families and veterans across Maharashtra.
The event at Lok Bhavan was attended by key leaders from the Maharashtra government alongside senior military commanders. Dignitaries present at the ceremony included Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Pawar, who is also the National President of the Nationalist Congress Party, attended the event alongside the state leadership.
In addition to the state executive leaders, the ceremony saw participation from senior cabinet ministers and defence officials. Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar, Tourism Minister Shambhuraj Desai, Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsam, and Lieutenant General Rajesh Pushkar were among those in attendance. They were joined by war widows, mothers of martyrs, and serving personnel of the armed forces who gathered at Lok Bhavan to mark the occasion.
