Maharashtra Sets Up Committee in Mumbai to Honour Singer Mukesh's Legacy

The Maharashtra government has constituted the 'Late Singer Mukesh Gaurav Committee' in Mumbai City district to preserve and promote the musical legacy of legendary playback singer Mukesh, whose 50th death anniversary will be observed on August 27, 2026.

Mukesh contributed significantly to Indian culture, musical traditions, and national integration through his extensive body of Hindi film songs as well as Marathi compositions. The newly formed committee is tasked with preserving his heritage while establishing platforms for emerging singers and artistes.

Maharashtra Minister for Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha has been appointed as the chairman of the committee. Bollywood actor Neil Nitin Mukesh and Shiv Sena group leader Amey Ghole have been named as members, while the Mumbai City Collector will serve as the committee's member secretary.

Minister Lodha stated that Mukesh created an enduring place in Indian music and that his voice continues to resonate with listeners. He noted that it is the government's responsibility to preserve the late singer's musical legacy and pass it on to future generations, while simultaneously encouraging new talent and providing opportunities for upcoming artistes in the field of music.

To honour the singer's contributions, the committee will organise a series of cultural initiatives. These will include dedicated singing competitions for music students and emerging performers, along with musical evenings and concerts showcasing Mukesh's popular Hindi and Marathi tracks. The committee will also distribute scholarships, awards, and financial assistance to support promising young artistes.
