Major Leak in Mumbai-III Water Pipeline at Teen Hath Naka in Thane Prompts Emergency Work

A major leak has been detected in the 3,000 mm diameter Mumbai-III water pipeline along the Eastern Express Highway in the Teen Hath Naka area of Thane, prompting civic authorities to launch emergency repair operations.

The affected conduit is an underground line encased in a protective covering. Municipal authorities noted that because the pipeline is buried at a depth of approximately 3 to 4 metres, reaching the structure and carrying out repairs poses a significant technical challenge for the engineering teams on site.

Upon receiving information regarding the rupture, Mumbai Municipal Corporation personnel were immediately deployed to initiate repair work on an emergency basis. Teams have commenced operations to pinpoint the exact source of the leak and access the deeply buried pipeline to undertake the necessary fixes.

Given the massive 3,000 mm capacity of this critical supply line, officials indicated that the leak is likely to impact water supply across the Mumbai region. Relevant municipal officials and technical staff remain on-site at Teen Hath Naka to oversee the situation and work towards completing the repair tasks as quickly as possible.

Civic authorities stated that the complex nature of the encasement and the depth at which the conduit is situated mean the repair process may require considerable time. The municipal administration is currently focusing its efforts on completely stopping the water leak and ensuring the safe restoration of the pipeline network.
