Malaysia Airlines Lands Mumbai Indians-Themed Airbus A330 in Mumbai

Malaysia Airlines' specially painted Airbus A330-300 featuring the Mumbai Indians livery touched down in Mumbai for the first time on Wednesday, landing at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA). The wide-body aircraft, registered as 9M-MTM, completed its maiden commercial operation on the route as flight MH-194 from Kuala Lumpur.

The flight touched down on Runway 27 at 10.13pm on Wednesday after departing Kuala Lumpur at 8.11pm. The return service, flight MH-195, departed Mumbai at 11.59pm and arrived in Malaysia at 5.05am. Following its initial turnaround, the aircraft returned to Mumbai on Thursday for a second operational cycle, establishing the dual-branded jet as a regular fixture on direct services connecting Malaysia and India.

The aircraft's custom exterior blends Malaysia Airlines' classic deep blues with the electric blue, gold trim, and dynamic Chakra motif of the five-time Indian Premier League champions. The forward fuselage features the Mumbai Indians emblem alongside sweeping motion graphics across the body of the A330-323.

The special design was first unveiled in late April 2026, following an agreement signed in January 2026 that designated Malaysia Airlines as the official global airline partner and associate sponsor for the Mumbai Indians. The commercial agreement also placed the carrier's branding on the right chest of the team's match jerseys.

The deployment of the themed aircraft forms part of Malaysia Aviation Group's wider expansion across the Indian subcontinent. The airline currently operates more than 80 weekly flights connecting 10 Indian cities to Kuala Lumpur, using the country as a major feeder market for onward passenger connections to Southeast Asia, Australia, and East Asia.

In addition to operating the Mumbai–Kuala Lumpur route, the 9M-MTM aircraft is scheduled to rotate across other high-density destinations within India and the carrier's broader Asia-Pacific network.

Speaking at the initial unveiling of the livery, Malaysia Aviation Group Chief Executive Officer Bryan Foong noted that India remains a key growth market for the carrier, adding that the collaboration with the Mumbai Indians allows the airline to integrate cultural relevance into its brand experience across the region.
