MbPA Orders Probe After Crane Overturns at Indira Dock, Injuring Two

The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) has initiated a detailed investigation after a shore-based mobile crane overturned and sparked a massive fire at Indira Dock on Sunday evening, leaving two people injured.
The incident occurred at around 7:15 pm on August 30, 2026, while heavy-lift and project cargo operations were underway alongside the vessel M/V Vienna at BPS Berth. The mobile crane overturned directly towards the vessel, which immediately triggered a major fire.
In the wake of the accident, the port authority ordered a comprehensive review of safety compliance across cargo handling operations. MbPA stated that it is working to ensure that the operators concerned implement all necessary corrective and preventive measures to maintain safe cargo operations and prevent similar incidents from recurring.
