MMRDA Approves Direct Metro Line 4 Bridge to Godrej Campus in Vikhroli

On July 18, 2026, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) approved the construction of a direct foot overbridge (FOB) linking a Metro Line 4 station directly with the Godrej commercial campus in Vikhroli, Mumbai. The project aims to improve pedestrian safety, reduce travel times, and enhance last-mile connectivity to encourage public transport use.

By constructing the direct link, employees, visitors, and commuters will be able to access the Godrej campus directly from the Metro station. This design eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross the busy LBS Road.

Under the MMRDA's established policy, commercial and residential developments seeking direct connectivity to Metro stations must pay a one-time, non-refundable development fee. The applicant is also required to bear the entire cost of designing and constructing the FOB, along with an additional six per cent of the construction cost to cover the MMRDA's supervision charges.

As part of this approval, Godrej & Boyce has paid a ₹10 crore one-time, non-refundable development fee to the MMRDA and will bear all design, construction, and supervision costs. Anup Mathew, Executive Vice President and Business Head of the Godrej Enterprises Estates Division, Godrej Enterprises Group, handed over the cheque to MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee and other officials.

This Vikhroli project is only the second private development in Mumbai to receive a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MMRDA for direct Metro station access. Previously, a similar connectivity project was approved for Oberoi Mall on Metro Line 7. The MMRDA is also currently evaluating other proposals, including one from the Bharat Diamond Bourse on Metro Line 2B, which could benefit nearly 40,000 daily users.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the policy provides direct Metro access to major developments to strengthen last-mile connectivity. He noted that the model benefits both commuters and the Metro system by increasing ridership and generating non-fare box revenue to support the network's financial sustainability.

Deputy Chief Minister and MMRDA Chairman Eknath Shinde added that all proposals undergo rigorous technical, structural, and safety scrutiny before receiving approval. MMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee emphasized that the initiative creates seamless integration while ensuring that the connectivity costs are borne entirely by the beneficiary institutions.
