MP Naresh Mhaske Demands Action Over Thane Railway Station Canteen Hygiene Lapses

On 18 July, 2026, Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske demanded that Central Railway take immediate action against the catering contractor at the Thane railway station canteen in Thane, Maharashtra. The demand follows allegations of severe hygiene lapses, the sale of expired food items, and other critical food safety violations at the station's catering facility.
Mhaske escalated the issue by submitting a formal memorandum directly to the divisional railway manager of Central Railway. In the document, the Member of Parliament highlighted the unhygienic conditions under which food was being prepared and served to commuters at the station.
According to an official release issued by Mhaske’s office, the political leader's intervention was prompted by an inspection of the site as well as direct complaints from daily passengers. Multiple railway commuters had previously voiced their grievances and lodged complaints regarding the subpar quality of the food served at the Thane railway station canteen.
The memorandum formally requests that the divisional railway manager initiate strict action against the catering contractor responsible for the operations. The complaints specifically highlighted the sale of expired food items, which poses a potential health risk to the public utilizing the busy railway station.
Through this official memorandum, Mhaske aims to hold the catering contractor accountable for the hygiene lapses and food safety violations. The demand, issued on 18 July, 2026, seeks to ensure that proper food safety standards are strictly enforced by Central Railway authorities at the station in the future to protect passenger health.
The release from the MP's office noted that the action was necessary due to the persistent nature of the complaints from passengers who use the station's canteen. The memorandum submitted to the divisional railway manager of Central Railway emphasizes the urgency of addressing these hygiene lapses to safeguard public health.
