Mulund MT Agrawal Hospital Patients Face 20 Day Wait For Sonography

On July 18, 2026, patients at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) newly inaugurated MT Agrawal Super Speciality Hospital in Mulund, Mumbai, faced severe diagnostic delays, waiting between 15 to 20 days for critical sonography appointments. The bottleneck at the Rs 470 crore hospital is driven by a critical shortage of equipment and medical staff, with only one functioning ultrasound machine and a single radiologist available to handle the heavy patient load.

The diagnostic delays have sparked major concerns for patients, particularly pregnant women and those requiring urgent medical evaluation. While hospital officials from the sonography department stated that emergency cases and pregnant women are given priority, the sheer volume of patients has forced many others to wait nearly a month for an appointment.

The strain on the Mulund facility has been exacerbated by operational failures at other civic hospitals. Sonography services at both Veer Savarkar Municipal Hospital and Seven Rasta Municipal Hospital are currently non-functional. Consequently, patients from these two facilities are being referred to MT Agrawal Hospital, overloading its single-machine unit.

A doctor from the hospital's sonography department confirmed the crisis, noting that the hospital has only one sonography machine and one doctor while simultaneously absorbing referred patients from the other two non-operational municipal facilities.

The hospital's infrastructure limitations previously drew attention during a recent BEST bus accident in Bhandup. At that time, several injured patients had to be transferred to other medical facilities because MT Agrawal Hospital lacked adequate treatment options.

On Friday, Leader of the Opposition Kishori Pednekar and local corporator Rajol Sanjay Patil visited the hospital to review the healthcare services. Pednekar stated that healthcare services cannot be compromised and promised to raise the issue with the civic administration to secure the necessary infrastructure and manpower. Patil added that efforts would be made to ensure residents of Mulund and Bhandup do not face difficulties and called for the immediate restoration of non-functional diagnostic services at the other civic hospitals.
